MaCoReFe project: a testing machine for our gas regulators for low pressure
10 April 2025 - ProjectsThe collaboration between two of the branches of Pietro Fiorentini, one in Italy (Desenzano del Garda, Lombardia) and one in the USA (Weirton, West Virginia), led to the project of a testing machine for our two-stage gas pressure regulators for low pressure: the FE.
These gas pressure regulators are widely used in distribution networks for residential and commercial users. With the new testing machine, we automated the control processes ensuring greater accuracy, productivity and added the possibility to collect data for analysis. Great attention was dedicated to the ergonomic aspect that impacts workers.
Thanks to the MaCoReFe project we automated verification processes that were still being carried out manually (checking the seals of gas pressure regulators and instruments for managing pressure reduction and regulation in gas networks). Our main goals:
- to automate the control process
- to detect calibrations and leaks in safety devices
- to acquire and integrate information into business systems
- to analyze air and electricity consumption to estimate the carbon footprint
Working with MADE – Competence Center Industry 4.0, and its partner MetalWork Automation, we created a CE-certified machine that automates external and internal testing of FE pressure regulators. The machine also allows process data to be collected, used and verified, and associated with the individual product via QR Code.
Key achievements:
- +31% of productivity
- product traceability and data storage via automatic scanning
- integration of data into the information systems of the company
- timely monitoring of product safety device calibrations
- increase in quality gates (the process controls that are performed at each cycle)
- monitoring of consumption and emissions
We also focused on the ergonomic aspects to protect the safety of workers, in accordance with both European Community and internal directives of Pietro Fiorentini.
Project financed under the PNRR, co-financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU (Measure M4C2 I2.3 PNRR).
