Enabling the transition
Wind and solar power will play an increasing role in electricity production, a production that is not programmable by its nature. Energy storage will therefore be a priority to keep production and demand in balance. Thanks to the help of methanogen organisms, hydrogen can be combined with CO2 and transformed into methane ready for injection into the traditional gas grid. Power-to-gas fits in the electricity infrastructure as an effective element of flexibility and energy storage and in the meantime an interception of CO2 emissions.
